Traffic Report  on 10 June '12

Two objects reported inside ten LD

There are two asteroids reported inside ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth today. Within Earth's Hill sphere, newly announced risk-listed 2012 LJ comes its closest to Earth on this passage, reaching 1.63 LD at 1843 UTC, and also its closest to the Moon -- 1.71 LD at 1846 UTC. Further away, 2012 LA is outbound from 9.32 to 9.57 LD.

No other objects are known to be coming inside ten LD until November.

This report was generated at 0434 UTC with new discovery 2012 LJ (MPEC).

Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical significance but is a useful reporting boundary. Earth's Hill sphere (of gravitational influence) is estimated to extend out to around 3.89 LD. Object distances are interpreted by A/CC from JPL Horizons data.
