How to Browse Internet from Linux Shell Command line

Searching for a term on Google is an easy task with the browser, but with surfraw it all goes out on a compact command directly from the shell. You must call, such as the machine only with the desired service and term:

surfraw google notebook

This is interesting not only for console junkies and administrators, it also saves some time if you have any way to open a terminal window. In addition, surfraw can also be  install in your own shell scripts. It will display the search results for the term notebooks on the screen.

Commissioning

surfraw offer most distributions on about their package manager. On Ubuntu, you have only the package surfraw import and accept the list of dependencies:

sudo apt-get install surfraw

The command for which search engines, Internet services and online stores surfraw support or betrays:

 surfraw -elvi

The abbreviations listed in the first column, you just have to pass to the tool as the second parameter. Usually they are identical to the domain name of the search engine or the service. Then passed by the abbreviation text interpreted surfraw as a search term. The following command finds, for example, all video to Linux Mint on YouTube:

surfraw youtube "linux mint"

Fine Tuning

Some of the services may still be influenced via parameters. Thus, in a Google search yields of call:

surfraw google -results = 2 notebooks

встроен - в качестве поисковика "по умолчанию" во все браузеры, по-моему

И Яндекс лезет из всех щелей, по умолчанию патаясь устанавливаться в виде каких-то Яндекс-баров и прочего из м-торрента например или программы для скачки видео с Ютуба =)
Возможно, гугло-яндекс это даже просто двуликий Янус =).

Я как-то думал про автоматический перевод автосубтитров на Ютубе. Так он оказывается там уже есть. На все языки =).
Но если автосубтитры по инглишу впечатляют, то автоперевод этих субтитров на русский вызывает уже изрядную порцию смеха =)).

Scroogle.Org – A Site I Can’t Live Without

When you do a search on Google (especially if you are logged in but also, I think, if you have visited previously and have a cookie installed) you get custom results. So, for instance, if you search on “Chicago Divorce Lawyer” once and then do it again, later, your second set of results are influenced by what happened on the first visit. If you clicked on a certain site then you are more likely to see that site elevated in the results of the second search. Apparently this is done to enhance your search experience and it’s probably a helpful feature.

The problem is that you don’t see the same results as other people see and this becomes a concern when you are checking out your site’s performance in the search engine rankings. Most of us would like our site to come up first on certain search phrases and we’d like to know how we are doing. The Google customized results make it difficult for you to check.

I use an expensive and complicated software package for checking my rankings but I really like to check every so often without launching the software and clicking on all the buttons. I just want to do a quick search and see what the rest of the world is seeing.

Scroogle.org will search google for you via a proxy. With Scroogle you are anonymous to Google. They don’t know it’s you.

P.S. Be careful not to go to Scroogle.com (as distinguished from .org) unless you enjoy lesbian pornography.
